Winter!
Ready or not, winter
comes knocking at our door! There
are rules your child must follow as cold weather approaches. It is important your child have the
following items:

Children must have 5
items on to safely play in the snow.
(hat/hood, coat, gloves/mittens, boots & snow pants). Tucking an
extra pair of socks in your childÕs backpack may be a very welcome sight for
him or her! Please label ALL
clothing with your childÕs name, especially mittens/gloves. Children are welcome to take off their
boots in their classroom. They may
bring an extra pair of shoes and leave them in their backpack for use in the
classroom. Being that children are
wearing more than one item of clothing, our lost & found grows each
day. Remind your children to check
this area often.

At Lincoln, we decided on a food drive of non-perishable foods from December 4th
– December 15th in
efforts to help our community.
Your
donations are greatly appreciated.
For your childÕs convenience, there is bin available for collections in
our main office foyer.

Student
Recognition
At Lincoln
Elementary we value student progress in many ways. Positive recognition not only motivates children to do their
best, it also lifts their spirits to becoming a better student. You may remember our Student of the
Month assemblies honoring children at each grade level for the monthÕs
expectation. This year we will
continue with a similar recogntion, only this time we call it,
Lincoln Super Stars!
Every month, each teacher chooses up to 3
students recognizing student excellence.
Parents are then invited to attend a special recognition assembly in
honor of their student. Your child
receives a Lincoln Super Star award for their SUPER achievements!
Another great
source of celebrating our Students is with our new ÒYouÕve been
CaughtÓ awards! All Lincoln staff have the opportunity of filling out a
short nomination ÒYouÕve been CaughtÓ form. Students bring their form to the office and place it in the drawing
barrel where they are collected throughout the month. By the middle of the month, principal Tim Sheppard draws 5
names announcing over the intercom system their reason of Ôbeing caughtÕ. We hope these forms of recognition
encourage success for all.

ItÕs that time of
year again when the staff at Lincoln Elementary and the Lincoln PTA band
together to make the holidays a brighter time for a few of our families here at
Lincoln. For those of you who donÕt know how this works, staff refers the
families to Dennis Bailey, the school counselor, who contact the families to
determine their needs. Mr. Bailey then lets PTA know the size of the
family, and suggestions for purchases.
We are asking this
year that all donations be made by checks made out to the Lincoln PTA. Please
do not send cash. Please mark on the check and/or the envelope that this
donation is for the PTA Christmas Family, and deposit it in the PTA mailbox.
We hope to have all donations, which are tax deductible collected by
December 11th.
The holidays are a
time of joy for many, but a time of worry and sadness for others. We as
parents all know how hard it is to make ends meet sometimes. Imagine not
being able to provide a holiday meal, or gifts for your children. I encourage
you to join us in this very worthwhile and fulfilling project. If you
have any questions please feel free to call 663-4504. Thank you for your generosity. Tracy
Marker, PTA President
Reminder that the
Missoula ChildrenÕs Theater is coming up and try-outÕs are Monday, January 8th
right after school. This yearÕs play is ÒThe Jungle Book.Ó Grades 1st
through 5th will be able to try out. We are currently looking for
businesses and or family sponsors to help with the cost of the play. In
recognition, we will place your name or the name of the business that you work
for on the programs. We also need lots and lots of parent help to make
this play possible, so if you are interested in either helping and or
sponsoring please contact Cindy Murie at 886-3098.
A great ÒBIGÓ
thanks goes to everyone who volunteered their time at the Ceramic Workshop that
was held on Saturday, November 18th. It was a huge success and lots of
fun!!!! A special thanks goes to Patty Carroll (a mom whoÕs kids use to come to
Lincoln) for her hard work and dedication that she puts towards the Ceramic
Workshop.
We wanted to let
all of you parents know that the PTA started the ÒAR StoreÓ last year allowing
every child in the school to work at reading and reaching a goal that their
teacher sets for the classroom and then if the student reaches their goal they
get to choose a prize. Parents please continue to encourage your children to read!!!
Thank you to those
of you who signed up to be a Room Parent. Room Parents are an invaluable
asset. Teachers appreciate having another person who can correct
assignments, create bulletin boards and room decorations, help plan classroom
celebrations and do numerous other tasks. Good communication is key to
being an effective room parent. Begin establishing a friendly working
relationship with the teacher by setting up a meeting. Ask the following
questions to better understand the teacherÕs needs and to help identify your
role:
What is the
preferred method of communication?
What is my role:
making phone calls, correcting papers, helping with field trips?
Should I be aware
of any medical concerns, such as allergies among the students?
Parents who are
involved in their childrenÕs education know that a great way to be supportive
is to be active partners with their childrenÕs schools and classrooms.
Being a room parent provides an opportunity to do this. So whether you
are correcting papers, making phone calls, or doing any other of the numerous
jobs that you may encounter as a volunteer, remember that the time you spend as
a room parent will show your child that you value and support his or her
education.
