Safety Concern
We recently communicated with the
city parking officer about a concern she had for student safety here at
Lincoln. She reported that parents
are being allowed to park in the short yellow-restricted/no parking curb area
just north of the bus circle.
Please note that if the curb is marked yellow...it is a restricted/no
parking area. Please do not park
in all yellow-restricted zones...even if just picking up or dropping off
students. This is NOT safe, because students cannot be seen if cars are parked
in the yellow-restricted areas (it adds to the congestion of the parking
entrance/exit). This is why they
are marked yellow and we need to support the enforcement of them. Yellow curbs indicate NO PARKING...at
any time.
We ask that you
observe the following rules:
Please
STAY OUT of the CIRCULAR DRIVEWAY in front of the school. That is a BUS ONLY zone!
ChildrenÕs safety is
always our most important consideration.
Animals at School
DonÕt forget! NO pets are allowed at school at
any time. It is a city ordenance
law.
If you have a special Òshow & tellÓ
please contact your childÕs teacher to clear the short visit.
Thank you for helping
us maintain a safe and orderly environment for students and staff.

First Grade M&M Night!
The First
Grade Classes at Lincoln had a great time at their first Meet and
Monitor
Night, called M & M night, Thursday Oct. 26th. Parents were invited to join their
child in the classroom to discuss reading strategies and how to help at home.
They then
stayed to carve their Halloween pumpkins!
We greatly appreciate taking the time to join us! Thank you parents for taking an
interest. It was a great time!
Your continuous reading strategies at home make a difference in all
students. Thank you!
Apple-Adventure!
During the
month of September, the second grade classes studied about the Wenatchee
Valley's apple industry. Some of
the material covered included why Wenatchee is a good place to grow apples,
seasons of an apple tree, what jobs take place during each season and good and
bad insects. In addition, the
children also did apple art, learned apple songs, and made apple poems. To wrap up this social studies unit,
the second grade classes went on a field trip to the WSU Tree Fruit Research
Center. While there, they got to
go to a variety of stations. Some
of their favorite stations were making apple pictures, catching good and bad
insects, and picking apples. They
each returned to school with their own apple to eat. The apples were delicious!
Just for PARENTS
We would like to remind parents of ÒSCHOOL NEWSÓ
designated in a special place especially for YOU! Please visit our school. We have a parent informational table set up in our foyer
which pertains all community and school handouts as we receive them. Our school will no longer send home
with students flyers which come from the community in hopes that you will take
the time to visit our parent corner at Abraham Lincoln. We also supply great informational strategies in working with your
children. Feel free to take items
you wish from this area.

Lost & Found
Our Lost
& Found has a new location!
Lost & Found is now located in the entryway of the stage. So many ÒlostÓ coats are never returned
due to the fact we just donÕt know who they belong too. Please make sure to label your childÕs
clothing. If your child borrows an
article from school, we appreciate you returning them in a timely manner. If you wish to donate clothing to our
health room, such as t-shirts, pants, sweaters, socksÉwe greatly appreciate your
help!
School Champion Award
WhoÕs cool that works at your school?
Numerica Credit Union would like to reward North Central Washington
school employees for the vital role they play in our childrenÕs lives. This recognition program provides an
opportunity for students and parents to nominate school employees who have
impacted their lives in a positive way.
Each month, Numerica selects the most outstanding nomination in the
region.
To pick up your nomination form, visit our
schoolÕs ÔParent CornerÕ and send the completed form to Numerica Credit Union

Unexcused Absences
If your child is out ill or on vacation for
any period of time, please REMEMBER to
call our school office no later than 8:30 a.m. to report the absence. Washington State BECCA law requires
each absence be excused by a parent/guardian. If a phone call is not made or if a note is not provided,
your child will receive an unexcused absence for the day along with a notice
mailed home. Please help us to ensure
your childÕs success in school by getting them here and on time.
Student Arrival to School
We have had
several children arrive at school too soon. This becomes a problem as their is no adult supervision
outdoors until 7:55 a.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9:25 a.m. on Mondays. We ask for your help to please monitor
the time your child arrives at school.
Our first bell rings at 9:40 on Mondays and 8:10 Tuesday through
Friday. Students are only allowed
inside the building once the first bell has rung. As our winter months approach, it is important you send your
child to school at the times given to help eliminate having to stand outside in
the cold weather. At this time we
also ask that your child is appropriately dressed for the upcoming months and
cold weather.
Mrs. MckeeÕs 2nd graders
Mrs. McKee's class has joined the
Scholastic Classrooms Care program.
There are many classrooms in America where students don't have books to
read. Classrooms Care is a special
reading program that empowers students to read and make a difference. By reading 100 books by December 31,
2006,
Scholastic
Book Clubs will donate 100 books to kids who need them. The donation will be made in honor of
the class reading the 100 books.
Mrs. McKee's class read 100 books in only two and one half days. Way to go second graders!
